Mosquitoes are small and annoying and they are also dangerous as they are known to carry an array of diseases, some of which can seriously damage your health.
The first thing you need to do, if you live in a mosquito risk area, is to get the local pest control experts to come in and inspect your home. They’ll be able to tell you the risks and where your home is most vulnerable, effectively allowing you to prepare to protect your home from the mosquitoes.
But, if you don’t yet have a problem and need the help of some good exterminators, you need to consider what home remedies are available that will prevent the mosquitoes from becoming an issue for you.
Lavender
The smell of lavender is repulsive to mosquitoes, the fact that it also has antifungal, antiseptic, and analgesic properties is a bonus!
The best way to administer lavender is by mixing 30 drops of lavender oil with 2 tablespoons of olive oil or coconut oil. You can then apply this mixture to your skin and the mosquitoes will not be interested in you.
Rosemary
Another aroma that is repulsive to mosquitoes is Rosemary. You can place rosemary in your entranceways to keep the mosquitoes away, or you can burn some on a barbeque to provide a stronger smell that will persuade the mosquitoes to go somewhere else.
Garlic
Garlic is said to ward off vampires, this is debatable as the evidence that vampires exist is a little vague. But, studies do show that eating garlic will result in the garlic being emitted by the pores in your skin, in the process they’ll form a natural barrier, blocking the mosquitoes from feasting on you.
Standing Water
Most mosquitoes need standing water to allow them to breed successfully. They lay their eggs in the standing water. If you get rid of the water you’ll prevent new mosquitoes from hatching and you’ll discourage the mosquitoes from staying at your place.
You’ll need to be thorough when checking, even the smallest amount of standing water can be a target for the mosquito.
Tea Tree Oil
Mosquitoes don’t like tea tree oil, they are surprisingly sensitive to smells and this is a great way of keeping them away.
In fact, soak some ribbons in tea tree oil and hang them in the doorways and windows of your home, it will stop the mosquitoes coming inside your home.
Baby Oil
If it’s personal protection you need then baby oil is a great option. Simply apply it to your skin and the mosquitoes will leave you alone. Not only do they not like the smell of the baby oil, but they’ll also find it hard to land on your skin and connect to you.
Move The Air
Mosquitoes are comparatively small and are not very good flyers. Simply adding a small fan o each of the rooms in your home will make it difficult for the mosquitoes to fly, keeping them away from you.
It can even create a pleasant atmosphere for you!
