While being an entrepreneur is never easy, there’s never been a more challenging time to be an entrepreneur than today. The coronavirus pandemic has led to uncertainty and instability across the board, from the job market to how consumers behave.
While entrepreneurs are used to a certain level of risk and uncertainty, they are definitely facing more chaos now. But this sort of chaos is all pretty standard for Sawyer Winston, a San Diego native and prolific entrepreneur.
Sawyer Winston typically flies below the radar, but now, we’re starting to learn a little more about his inner workings. We sat down with Winston, to talk about how he stays motivated, how he keeps his energy up, and mindset hacks, especially as we approach the new year.
As a serial entrepreneur, Winston is no stranger to risks and adventure. Sawyer Winston has been on the San Diego scene for years, and actually got an unusually start to his entrepreneurial endeavors.
When Winston was a teen, he was already handling some fairly large roles, and through his early 20’s, Winston says he owned or managed about 10 different companies. When it comes to motivation, Winston describes himself as being really good at developing systems, and he is really drawn to building something that is larger than any of the independent units that go into it.
One of Winston’s biggest projects involved supplying internet services and developing algorithms. This grew to be a project with about 50 people across two countries.
He says that in order to stay on track, discipline was important, and he was fueled by his desire to do real good for their employees and the people around them.
It’s clear to see that with all of his big projects and undertakings, Winston is very active in his work life, and the same goes for his personal life. Winston is an adventurer at heart, and you can definitely tell when you take a look at his routine.
Winston says he works out every morning, and usually boxes later in the day. Staying active in his personal life is important for Winston to stay energized.
Although he is spontaneous, Winston is also a big thinker. He says he often sits and thinks through conversations and interactions he had throughout the day, reworking them in his mind, and analyzing how they were handled. This sort of deep processing is crucial for Winston, and helps him dissect his actions, and how to best handle next steps going forward.
When it comes to mindset in general, there’s one clear theme that becomes apparent when you look at Winston’s body of work: that he doesn’t shy away from taking on projects or responsibilities that seem too big or too outlandish.
By taking on these massive roles and responsibilities, especially from a young age, one could glean that mindset is a big factor in Winston’s success, and that it’s crucial for the young entrepreneur’s success.
