Well 2020 would appear to be one of the strangest for a very long time, and given that we are only just halfway through the year, that is quite the statement. We are talking of course abut the global pandemic CoVid-19 which has completely changed the face of the world over the last 4 months. Central to all of what has been going on is the importance of healthcare workers and the outpouring of help from the private sector has been staggering. One aspect which we are going to discuss today is Coronavirus short term corporate housing which has been offered to these healthcare workers, and exactly what that has meant for the thousands of doctors and nurses who work tirelessly every day to help us manage this crisis.
The Problem
Owing to the way in which this virus is spread, it is of course a terrible idea for healthcare workers who have been exposed to it, to then go home to their families, which risks the spread of the virus. What this has meant therefore that these workers have had to find a place to stay and somewhere to go once their shift has finished. Many hotels have offered up their rooms, and so too have corporate housing companies.
More Than a Bed
This is not just about these workers having somewhere to sleep each night, that is important of course, but they need more than just a place to lay their head. Nurses and doctors need somewhere to try and relax at the end of the day, or night for that matter, they need somewhere to keep their things, somewhere to prepare some food and somewhere to switch off. This is what short term corporate housing has been able to provide for the healthcare workers, offering up their residences so that they all have somewhere to go after work.
Sanctuary
We have seen video after video from healthcare professionals who have discussed the difficulties which they are going through, both personally and professionally. In having a residence to go to at the end of the day these men and women have been provided with a sanctuary, somewhere to try and decompress following what we can only imagine to be a horrendous shift at the hospital.
Respect and Gratitude
There isn’t a single person on Earth who hasn’t seen the good work that the healthcare professionals have done, and are doing, and hasn’t felt tremendous gratitude and respect towards them. In offering these men and women somewhere to stay during the pandemic, it goes some way towards showing them exactly what we feel about the work that they do. The same goes for the restaurants and bars offering free meals to the healthcare workers, it is about us all doing what we can to say thank you for the courageous and the remarkable work which they are all doing day after day.
This is what offering up the corporate housing space means.
