I want to tell you my story. My name is Mike, and I’m 43 years old. I have a wife and a little daughter who is now 8 years old. I’ve worked as a schoolteacher all my life, but a couple of years ago things went south. That was the first time I came across rehab clinics in Birmingham.
How Did It Start?
As is usually the case, men have a midlife crisis by the time they’re 40. It didn’t pass me by either. I started drinking beer in the evenings after work, just to relax. I would buy my wife some wine and myself a couple of beers, and we’d have dinner together. Then I started noticing that I could no longer do without alcohol, as life began to seem boring and monotonous to me. Every week I was running short of a couple of cans, and I was taking six or eight.
We Found the Rescue!
My wife began to notice that the situation was getting out of hand and tried to talk to me. At first, I was offended, because I didn’t consider myself an alcoholic and didn’t think I was hurting my family. I stopped paying attention to the child, stopped taking care of my wife (we forgot what sex was). One morning, when I was sober, my wife brought me a laptop with the Serenity Addiction Centers` website open. I’ll leave a link to the clinic’s website here https://www.rehabclinic.org.uk/.
I already knew it couldn’t go on like this, so I decided to give it a try. I’m very glad I found the strength and I don’t regret that I decided to do it! The staff at the clinic was great! I felt cared for, and the doctors checked on my health. Psychologists and psychotherapists worked with me. Together we got to the bottom of the real problem.
Don’t be afraid to accept your weaknesses! Have the courage to ask for help.
